10 Litter box lessons

• A tray that is 1.5 x the length of cats is preferred so they can cover their deposits.

• Daily scooping as soon as they have been to the bathroom is recommended.

• A clumping cat litter such as Intersand (NOT SCENTED) makes it easier to

remove any deposits. 3 cm depth is the suggested recommendation.

• Avoiding any interactions with the dogs and the litter tray is important

otherwise the cats may toilet elsewhere. You could get a door with a microchip

cat flap.

• Avoiding any speaking / loud voices to your cat if you seeing them doing it is key

or they may start hiding and going to the bathroom in different places because

they are nervous, as they have incredible hearing.

• Increase the number of resources such as trays, feeding stations and resting

spots - the ideal is 1 per cat plus one.

• Have vertical space with ramps and steps so your cats can navigate key

resources more easily such as litter trays and food and watch things from a safe

vantage point (and potentially naturally habituate to them). You can do this with

cat trees (which often have scratching posts) or with existing furniture if there is

enough room on top.

• Use window film which can be temporary so other cats cannot see them from the

garden. You could use grease proof paper to try it or there are options here

https://www.purlfrost.com/.../blue-frosted-window-film/... Or a stain glass window

design here which is fancy https://www.brume.co.uk/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR0zkzYiGriMEp3-

• Make sure your cats tray is in a quiet location.
